Fairytale Town event needs volunteers

Feb. 11, 2010 -- United Way California Capital Region certified agency, Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center is hosting its annual Fairytale Town After Hours benefit on Sept. 10, 2010. They need volunteers!

Celebrity Chef Challenge benefit needs volunteers

Feb. 10, 2010 -- United Way California Capital Region certified agency, InAlliance, is hosting a celebrity chef challenge that could use community support and volunteers. The annual fundraiser -- the Celebrity Chef Challenge -- will be held at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento on On Friday, April 30, 2010.

Literacy Support Council volunteer training dates

Feb. 9, 2010 -- United Way California Capital Region certified agency, Literacy Support Council of Placer County, supports the Placer County Library program called PALS (Placer Adult Literacy Service). PALS trains volunteer tutors and matches them one-on-one with adults who need help in reading and writing English. The service is free and confidential.

Painters needed at Omni Youth

Jan. 29, 2010 -- United Way California Capital Region certified agency, Omni Youth Programs, recently moved into a new office. They need volunteers to paint accent walls to beautify the space. They need volunteers to paint one to two walls per room using a light cocoa color over an off-white color on smooth walls. No patching is required.

Disaster fund for Haiti earthquake recovery

Jan. 13, 2010 -- United Way Worldwide has created a disaster fund to support Haiti’s earthquake recovery efforts. The disaster fund supports long-term recovery efforts to rebuild lives and infrastructure as well as addressing educational, financial and health-related challenges.
