What is a Kindergarten to College Seed Account?
K2C Seed Accounts are $25 savings accounts that will be opened for kindergarteners in qualifying schools. This seed money from United Way is held within a ScholarShare 529 account for the student. Furthermore, families can open another 100% tax-free ScholarShare 529 account at no cost to receive further matching awards from United Way. Information about ScholarShare 529 can be found at scholarshare529.com.
By reading regularly to your children during preschool years, you are giving them a big boost toward a successful education.
With the help of local community partners in Yolo County, our local United Way is helping children in Yolo County build home libraries at no cost through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Each month, a new book is mailed directly to your child’s home every month for a year until their 5th birthday.

AARP Experience Corps to support 19 schools across the region
Only half of all third graders in our five county region are reading at grade level according to the 2018 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
As part of United Way’s efforts to boost early literacy in our region, nearly 60 volunteers will tutor local students through the AARP Experience Corps program starting this fall. United Way has expanded the program and is partnering with two more schools for a total of 19 campuses to provide onsite reading support throughout the school year.
