United Way staff get fit with Fit Kids!

As a part of our internal workplace giving campaign, the United Way team volunteered our time with participants in the United Way Fit Kids program at the Will C.Wood Middle School campus site of the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center’s summer program.

After participating in stretches with program participants, staff assisted students who are involved in the Fit Kids program with activities designed to educate other students about healthy living.Students and United Way staff tried the activities while having fun at the same time.Collectively as a team, our favorite moments were those spent talking with students and hearing about the importance of the United Way Fit Kids program directly from the students themselves.

The goal of United Way Fit Kids is for 20% fewer people in our region to be overweight. But this challenge is too big for one nonprofit to solve – we need everyone on board. Here’s how we’re going to accomplish that goal together: We’re creating opportunities for kids to learn and practice nutritious food choices and exercise to create a lasting healthy lifestyle. We’re engaging youth and teens in programs that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles so they will grow up to be healthy adults. The best part? It’s working! 80% of 1,143 participants have improved in at least one domain on the school Fitnessgram® test that measures children’s physical fitness.
