Target East Sacramento and West Sacramento volunteer with Food Bank of Yolo County

East side and West side! Team members from both Target East Sacramento and Target West Sacramento joined forces to volunteer with Food Bank of Yolo County at an elementary school in West Sacramento to help with the Kids Farmers Market program.

The program is a mock farmers market done at elementary schools where the kids get “funny money” to shop in the market, stop by the nutrition resource table and play in the physical activity area. The purpose of the market is to teach kids the importance of making smart healthy choices and staying active. Volunteers distributed produce, shared nutrition and played a game with the kids in the physical activity area.

This program is cutting edge because it not only provides fresh fruits and vegetables to kids and their families, but it also educates students on how to be a responsible and productive citizens of the community through money management training and opportunities to practice these skills at an early age. In addition, both students and volunteers learn more about produce and our local community together in a fun way. The Food Bank of Yolo County provides 2-3 million pounds of food annually to dozens of nonprofit agencies and hundreds of low-income households. Thank you to Target volunteers for giving back to the community and for Food Bank of Yolo County for hosting these fabulous volunteers.
