Volunteer - Free Tax Prep

Overview

Help Your Neighbors this Tax Season. No Tax Background Required!

Each year, the United Way and hundreds of volunteers help families and individuals who earn less than $60,000 annually file their taxes for free. Last tax season, the Free Tax Prep program (also known as VITA) helped more than 9,000 families. With your help, we can grow that number. No prior experience required beyond the passion for wanting to help our community!

Training can be completed through self-directed instruction online or through in-person classroom training. Classroom training will begin the end of October. Self-directed instruction materials will be updated in November. Please follow the links below to select which option is right for you.

Meet VITA Volunteer Javier Romero
Helping people one tax return at a time

The success of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is not possible without the tremendous support of our VITA volunteers. They go through countless hours of training, dedicate their weekday and weekends to filing returns, and help families save hundreds of dollars in tax preparation fees. While most volunteers have been filing their own taxes for years, Javier Romero began helping individuals and families long before he had to file his own taxes.
