Lifeskills workshop teaches foster youth important lessons
Women in Philanthropy members teach foster youth about personal branding and etiquette
When foster youth emancipate from the system, their futures are bleak. The statistics speak for themselves:
• More than 50% have no earnings in 4 years
• Only 25% are consistently employed
United Way’s Women in Philanthropy is a group of women dedicated to making a dent in those numbers.
At the beginning of February, WIP members Ginny and Rachel from
Enterprise led a workshop for foster youth at Koinonia Family
Services about the importance of establishing a personal brand
and proper online etiquette. In a digital age it is imperative to
have an online presence so that you can network and get connected
to the right people. Social media is a powerful tool that can
help in both the educational and professional worlds.
Workshops like these are invaluable to emancipating foster
youth – they encourage these teens to become confident, capable
and connected. If you’re a Women in Philanthropy member
interested in teaching a workshop, please contact us at wip@uwccr.org.
