Who We Are & What We Do
Who Are We: Women United (WU) is based on the recognition of women as a powerful philanthropic force. This dedicated group is grounded in the idea that addressing the most critical needs of our local foster youth community will enrich the entire community as a whole and creates a better life for us all. Members stand up, unite and take action on issues that hit closest to home by advocating, educating, giving and volunteering.
What We Do: WU is a dynamic group of women who ignite positive change and impact the community particularly in the areas of foster youth education, financial stability and health. Our goal is to continue to grow in diversity to represent a variety of ages, ethnic backgrounds, professions and interests with the shared belief in the work of WU.
Mission: Women United is dedicated to ensuring local foster youth are prepared for a successful transition to independence and ready for success in life. WU supports United Way’s Square One Project – our commitment to end poverty by increasing the number of kids who graduate from high school ready for college and career.
-Raise funds to support United Way’s foster youth programs including matched savings accounts that help teens build their future beyond foster care.
-Lead life skills workshops that help foster youth manage personal finances, apply for scholarships, navigate the college system and prepare for interviews.
