History of Women United
Making a Difference Regionally and Globally
United Way California Capital Region established Women United in early 2002. This small group of committed women developed the mission statement and held the first luncheon benefiting local foster community in the Arden Mall Nordstroms’ parking lot. Over the years, Women United members have continued their commitment to ignite positive change and impact the community particularly in the areas of foster youth, education, financial stability and health. Our goal is to continue to grow in diversity to represent a variety of ages, ethnic backgrounds, professions and interests with the shared belief in the work of Women United.
Since 2002, Women United has become a powerful network of over 250 women raising over $2 million for United Way foster youth programing.
History of Women United Around the World
Women United is a global movement championed by United Way Worldwide. This global network includes more than 60,000 women in 155 communities across six countries. These women make up the single most successful organization of its kind having raised more than $1 billion since its inception in 2002. Yet the contributions of these women leaders go beyond financial donations: they get involved, shake things up and create great change.
