JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Healthy Meals Program Manager, the Program Assistant is a key member of the United Way’s Healthy Meals Program team. Launched in September 2014, the United Way Healthy Meals Program aims to provide healthy, nutritious and well-balanced meals in after school and summer programs across United Way California Capital Region’s service area. Currently, the program serves healthy meals to over 1,000 children per day in Sacramento, Placer and Yolo Counties. The Program Assistant is responsible for preparing monthly claims, attending program meetings in the region, assisting with monitoring visits at all sites, and ensuring sites are in compliance with program policy and regulations. This position is a part-time, 4-month temporary position. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend mandatory training of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) training
  • Assist with preparing monthly claims for the California Department of Education
  • Perform monitoring visits to site locations in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and Amador counties
  • Complete all monitoring documentation as required by the program. 
  • Ensure that all monitoring documentation is recorded neatly and accurately and submitted to the Healthy Meals Program Coordinator by due dates
  • Report any and all noncompliance issue findings with program manager
  • Assist in preparing program documentation by performing such tasks as entering data, creating spreadsheets, and assembling site materials
  • Assist in preparing the monthly meal menus
  • Willingness to travel to program meetings throughout five counties
  • Function as a positive and contributing member of the United Way team
  • Maintain positive working relationships with program partners and stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma required

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Communicate with staff, volunteers, donors, agencies, companies and other customers by telephone, email, and in face-to-face, one-to-one or group settings
  • Use telephone, laptop, computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer/copier, calculator and standard office equipment
  • Sit at a desk for extended periods of time
  • File and retrieve documents from a manual filing cabinet
  • Lift and move objects up to 40 pounds such as large binders, boxes, books and small office equipment
  • Have sufficient finger/hand coordination and dexterity to operate and adjust office equipment such as telephone, computer, printer/copier and calculator

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of an appropriate California operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, and adequate automobile insurance; possession and maintenance of a good driving record (as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violation for at least a two-year duration) that does not contribute to an increase in UWCCR insurance rates.
