Health and Nutrition at Summer Sites!

United Way California Capital Region is partnering with Samuel Merritt University to provide health-related advice and referrals for families, and nutrition education for youth at summer meal sites throughout the region. Groups of 2-4 nursing students will arrive at your site with an “Ask-a-Nurse” station for two hours a day before meal time, prepared to answer common health-related questions and provide referrals to other free and low-cost service providers in the region. After meal time, they will lead a two-hour nutrition activity with a group of youth. Depending on what grade levels are represented, the nursing students may split them into two groups. The nursing students visit your site 3-4 times over the course of two weeks, for four or more hours each day (including your meal time). We will contact you before the end of the first week of June to solidify a schedule that will work for your community. This opportunity is made possible in partnership with 2-1-1 Sacramento and UC Cooperative Extensions’ EFNEP Department. Below is an sample schedule:

The Kids you Serve

While we know your summer programs haven’t quite started yet, we’re asking that you estimate the following information about the kids that will visit your site this summer.

Please provide the percentage breakdown of how many female kids and male kids you anticipate at your site (i.e. 40% female, 60% male).

Please provide a breakdown of the number of kids you wills serve between K-3rd grade and 4th-6th grade (i.e. 75% K-3, 25% 4-6)
