Experience Corps needs people like you!

United Way’s Experience Corps program has completed its first school semester and is going strong! Experience Corps is a reading tutor program which matches volunteers ages 50+ with small groups of kindergarten through third grade students in local schools.

The program already has 15 trained volunteers, with 15 more going through training this month. These 30 volunteers are dedicated to making an impact on our children’s future. Part of the training process includes spending three days under the guidance of an experienced training specialist helping them learn and prepare for entering the classroom as tutors.

The Experience Corps volunteers are currently serving 102 students in seven schools in the following districts: Center, Elk Grove, Robla, and Washington. There are more than 5,000 students in these districts who are waiting for a tutor to make a lasting impact on their education.

United Way is already recruiting volunteers for next 2017-2018 school year. Training will be held in August 2017. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming an Experience Corps tutor, click here to sign up or call 916-856-3972.
