5 years of Caring
3,692 Volunteers Contributed 18,054 Hours

This year, we celebrated 5 years of the community coming together to dedicate their time to local schools and nonprofits on Day of Caring.

Over 5 years, 3,692 volunteers donated more than 18,000 hours and completed 182 volunteer projects. WOW! Way to show the power of community and our LIVE UNITED spirit!

See what 5 years of caring looks like!

Our 5th annual Day of Caring kicked off with a rally at Cal Expo, where guests received their Day of Caring t-shirts, enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast, and heard from Scott Moak, Vice President of Community Impact for the Sacramento Kings and Executive Director of the King’s Foundation; Blair Crossan, Regional Vice President for Nationwide’s Western Regional Operations, a United Way board member and chair of the Resource Development Committee; Barry Brundage, Senior Vice President of U.S. Bank and Chair of United Way’s Board of Directors; Senator Dr. Richard Pan, member of United Way’s Board of Directors; and Ruben Reyes, superintendent for the Robla School District. The rally began and ended with an energizing performance from the nationally recognized Grant High School Drumline.

Following the rally, volunteers fanned out across the valley in Amador, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties to complete their projects. They painted, built, sorted, cleaned, and organized at 40 projects on Friday and Saturday, September 22 & 23.

Thank you volunteers! A special thank you for our Day of Caring team captains that put in some extra hours leading the work at each project site and making sure things went smoothly. A tremendous thank you to our nonprofit and school partners for organizing your project, welcoming volunteers and providing food and drinks to keep your teams hydrated and motivated.

Day of Caring would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. Nationwide Insurance was once again the presenting sponsor. Thank you Nationwide for sponsoring and bringing out more than 125 volunteers!

Thank you to our project sponsors including Dr. Pepper Snapple Group -who also donated waters, ESM Prep, KPMG, Law Offices of Deon R. Stein, Nelson Staffing, SAFE Credit Union, SMUD, Social Interest Solutions, Sutter, Szymanowski Orthodontics, TaxAudit.com and Zurich. We are also grateful for the support from our media sponsor Entercom and our host once again, Cal Expo.
