Reading is critical to success, but many students in communities with fewer resources are not reading at grade level. Research shows that students who are not proficient in reading by the end of 3rd grade falter in later grades and often drop out before earning a high school diploma. Those dropping out are 63 times more likely to end up in the criminal justice system challenging their ability to secure employment and earn a livable wage.
Students and Tutors Achieving Reading Success
STARS pairs volunteers with students in multiple school districts and community sites to provide online reading tutoring. Together, the tutor and student work through literacy curriculum and build vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills through games, books and lessons.
