Over 200 Women Celebrate Foster Youth At United Way’s Annual Women In Philanthropy Luncheon
Annual fundraiser benefits United Way’s foster youth programs
October 23, 2015 – As 17 foster youth walked the runway at United Way’s 14th Annual Women in Philanthropy Luncheon fashion show, over 200 guests cheered and clapped at the teens’ grinning faces. The annual event recently was held at the Arden Hills Country Club and also included a gourmet lunch, and presentations by local current and former foster youth who have participated in United Way’s financial stability work. United Way’s Women in Philanthropy members also discussed their work supporting financial literacy courses and a matched savings program for foster youth. During the event, donations were collected and the grand fundraising total, including ticket proceeds, reached $41,857, of which 100% will go directly to support local foster youth.
United Way’s financial stability work is focused on helping families and foster youth increase their savings so they can improve their economic outlook. United Way and its partners are connecting households and foster youth with financial knowledge and resources. In addition, United Way is leading the local Assets & Opportunity Network, a group of nonprofits, companies and volunteers looking at financial stability data in the community and working to increase the number of individuals who are financially thriving, including foster youth.
“We are so appreciative of the generosity and enthusiastic commitment demonstrated here today. These teens have dreams and thanks to the support provided by this wonderful group, every one of the foster youth at our luncheon has been given a chance to succeed,” said Stephanie Bray, United Way’s President & CEO.
The group is now collecting gifts and stockings for local foster youth through its annual Holiday Gifts Drive. For more information and to purchase gifts and stockings, visit www.yourlocalunitedway.org/wipgiftdrive .
