By reading regularly to your children during preschool years, you are giving them a big boost toward a successful education.
With the help of local community partners in Yolo County, our local United Way is helping children in Yolo County build home libraries at no cost through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Each month, a new book is mailed directly to your child’s home every month for a year until their 5th birthday.
We help kids stay on track and reach important educational milestones. Throughout the school year, volunteer tutors help first and second grade students, who test below standard on Beginning Phonics Skills Test (BPST), become stronger readers.

KinderCamp is a four-week summer program for incoming kindergartners who have not had the opportunity to go to preschool.
This free program gives students the opportunity to experience a classroom environment, be exposed to basic math and reading skills, and advance their social and emotional development. KinderCamp is also a collaborative community initiative that connects families with programs and services to help keep kids healthy so they can go to school every day ready to learn.
Young children who are introduced to early language, books and literacy experiences tend to read sooner and excel in school. Woodland Kids Read supports early childhood literacy by making reading fun for young kids.
