New Luggage for a New Start

Ying Lo, Child Abuse Prevention Center

Every year, United Way’s Women in Philanthropy generously donates luggage sets for foster youth in the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento’s Youth Investment Center Program (YIC). Foster youth are constantly moving from one placement to another and consequently, carry personal belongings in make-shift luggage, such as plastic bags or worn out backpacks. Thus, these donated luggage sets are a wonderful gift to foster youth and truly make a difference in their lives. Luggage sets are distributed to YIC foster youth who are preparing for emancipation. Luggage sets are given to youth going away to college or moving into independent housing.  This year, WIP will donate another 66 luggage pieces that will be distributed to YIC foster youth throughout Sacramento County. New luggage sets truly help foster youth prepare for a new start! Attend the towel/toiletry/luggage collection event on May 10!
