Foster youth workshop a success

I was blessed to be invited to the Koinonia Foster Youth Facility in Loomis, CA to conduct an Interview Skills Workshop as a volunteer with Women in Philanthropy. The experience was priceless. I met some really great young people who embraced me and invited me into their worlds for just a little while. I was most impressed with their thoughtful questions and willingness to learn. Both groups, young ladies and young men, were open and appreciative to learn about interview skills, resume writing, completing job applications and job preparedness in general.

Volunteering in this capacity was so much more meaningful than just writing a check. Although monetary contributions are the life blood of non-profit organizations like Koinonia, so is community involvement and individual contributions of time and talent. I urge anyone who wants to grow as a person in a purposeful way to take the challenge and share your talents, whatever they are, with these young people. Take it from me, it will be a life changing experience. I wish happy job hunting when the time comes to all of my new friends at Koinonia!
