Thanksgiving in April
Week of Thanks 2012: Our biggest THANKS yet!

It’s sort of like the old TV trend, “Christmas in July;” only better! While we believe in and strive for thanking our donors year-round, each Spring, United Way pulls out the stops and focuses the attention on finding news ways to thank and recognize our wonderful donors and the fabulous companies we are privileged to partner with throughout our region.

This year, we took an old strategy we’ve been doing for some time at companies like Intel and UPS on the road! We observed all those sign-wavers who advertise for various businesses (By the way: Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam, during tax season, you have wicked moves!). We watched and practiced their moves, worked hard on our signs, coordinated carefully with as many companies as we could and eventually sprung into action! Between Monday, April 23rd and Friday, April 27th we were able to wave thank-you signs at the following companies: UPS (hub locations in West Sacramento, Rancho Cordova and Rocklin), SMUD, Allied/Nationwide, State Street, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Campbell Soup Company, and AT&T.

Everyone who saw us was really pleased as evidenced by waving back, honking horns and showing their general support for United Way or the company we were thanking in one way or another. This didn’t just stop at the donors themselves who knew exactly why we were there, people driving by were more than happy to show their support for both United Way and the company we were thanking. In addition to the sign waving, we featured articles about the above companies and others on our website.

Our certified nonprofit partners play a big part in what we do year-round, and Week of Thanks is no different. Waving signs alongside the United Way team were 16 volunteers from Women’s Empowerment, Folsom Cordova Community Partnership, Sacramento Food Bank, River Oak Center for Children, PRIDE Industries, Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, and Community Housing Opportunities Corporation. The kids from certified partners Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento, Boys and Girls Club of El Dorado County Western Slope, YMCA of Superior California, and Sacramento Children’s Home all contributed to the art work on posters given to the company’s who hosted sign waving as well as other companies who provide top support for United Way and our certified non-profit partners.

Be sure to check out pictures of Week of Thanks 2012 (or Thanksgiving in April as I like to call it) to see the posters designed by the Kids, volunteers and United Way staff in action waving signs to thank our donors and the companies we work with and our mad sign waving skills. Next year, would you consider joining us to help out or would you like your company thanked in this fashion? Contact us!

In conclusion: THANK YOU! Thank you to our donors, our partner companies, certified non-profit partner agencies, volunteers, kids in the programs, and YOU for reading this article. United Way wouldn’t be successful without everyone who contributes to the success of our community. It really does take a village and we’re proud to be a part of that village alongside you. Thank you again!
