Women in Philanthropy spring drive breaks records
Hundreds of towels, toiletries, luggage collected for foster youth

United Way’s Women in Philanthropy spring event was quite the success! Our Women in Philanthropy members and community donated 497 towel sets (one bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth), 92 pieces of luggage, and hundreds of toiletries for local foster youth preparing to emancipate from the system – a new record for this drive. Last year, the group collected 253 towel sets and 48 pieces of luggage.

The towels and toiletries will be included in baskets that Sacramento County prepares as part of its Foster Youth Emancipation Basket program. The donated luggage is given to foster youth in United Way’s financial stability initiative that is working to ensure more households in the region, including foster youth living on their own, are financially literate and able to save for the future.

Women in Philanthropy Brings Holiday Cheer to Foster Youth
Annual Holiday Gift & Stocking Drive a Success!

In true holiday tradition, United Way’s Women in Philanthropy hosted their annual Holiday Gift & Stocking Drive to benefit local foster youth.

Women in Philanthropy supporters purchased holiday gifts for 50 foster youth in Sacramento, as United Way partnered with Sacramento County’s Gifts from the Heart program once again. Women also donated more than $5,000 to give a stocking to each foster teen in United Way’s Foster Youth program. Stockings included hats, gloves, notebooks, a Target gift card, and more. More than 180 teens at Koinonia Family Services, Child Abuse Prevention Center, New Morning Youth Services, and Amador Tuolumne Community Resources, Inc. will receive the stockings.

Women in Philanthropy & Retirees at Day of Caring
September 11

Members of United Way’s Women in Philanthropy and Retirees donated their time on Day of Caring at ALS Association Greater Sacramento Chapter.

Volunteers helped ALS clean and organize their medical equipment closet, which will result in more efficient services for persons with ALS. Volunteers also organized items that can borrowed by patients and their familes, such as wheelchairs, walkers and respiratory machines.

Thank you to the volunteers who came out and helped this worthy cause.

194 Local Foster Youth Received Holiday Gifts & Stockings

192 gifts and 130 stockings were donated this year through United Way’s Women in Philanthropy so local foster youth can have their holiday wishes fulfilled.
