Deloitte IMPACT Day 2013
In celebration of Deloitte’s enduring commitment to building stronger communities, the organization and its professionals made nonprofits their top clients during its 14th annual IMPACT Day on Friday, June 7th. The annual day of service is a cornerstone of Deloitte’s Impact Imperative, the organization’s corporate culture of professionals who contribute their time, innovative thinking and specialized business acumen to help nonprofits advance their missions.
As a leading employer of top business talent, Deloitte encourages its professionals to serve as critical problem solvers and contributors to communities nationwide, setting aside office duties for IMPACT Day. Volunteers had the opportunity to participate in more than 800 volunteer events in 80 U.S. communities, including Sacramento. IMPACT Day projects included both skills-based and traditional “hands-on” events, including veteran support and education-focused projects and community improvement projects. This year, the local Deloitte team partnered with United Way California Capital Region to help with coordinating the efforts of this large scale volunteer opportunity.
For the 14th consecutive year, volunteers from Deloitte’s Sacramento office spent a Friday helping out with various projects at parks and nonprofits. This year, over 100 local volunteers participated in projects at the following organizations: CalVET, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, Sacramento Children’s Home, Salvation Army, St. John’s Shelter Program for Women & Children. In addition, a large number of volunteers participated in the efforts to help rebuild the McKinley park playground after it was destroyed in a fire last year. Across the region, volunteers put their muscles and brains to work at various nonprofits (all mentioned above) by working in programs—sorting food and clothing donations, creating boxes of food to be distributed to those who need it, helping to prepare food for women and children in a shelter, helping with child car activities and leading science experiments for kids living at a shelter, painting fences and other facility improvements, and working construction to help get the new playground structure built. Be sure to check out all the pictures of volunteers in action at all of these sites!
On top of working directly in the programs and providing services mentioned above, some volunteers also led workshops for clients on various topics such as resume building, interview techniques, dressing for success, job skills and small business information. The workshops took place at CalVet and Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. The workshops were a huge success and there was talk of continuing this type of community partnership to provide these workshops more often.
Many thanks to the team of Deloitte professionals who worked so hard to coordinate the IMPACT Day for local Deloitte employees. Another huge thank you to all Deloitte employees who stepped up and came out to make a big impact! United Way is proud to call you a partner. And speaking of partners, thank YOU to the United Way certified partners mentioned above for hosting these fabulous volunteers from Deloitte and ensuring that IMPACT Day went smooth and was enjoyed by all.
