City Year corps members participate in Day of Service at DDSO
20 corps members from City Year came together for a day of service on November 19th at Developmental Disabilities Service Organization to paint and prepare the new campus that will serve hundreds of clients when it opens at the end of the year. This project was outside the normal service City Year corps members (a program of AmerCorps) provide every day at local area schools helping to encourage students to succeed and decrease the dropout rate. The corps members had a great time volunteering while having fun and growing as a team.
Certified United Way nonprofit partner Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO) welcomed the group with open arms. DDSO provides training that supports adults with developmental disabilities realize their life choices in the areas of personal growth, employment, learning , community involvement, and the arts. Within 45 minutes, the first of several large rooms to be painted was complete. Program staff were amazed at the amount of work 20 motivated individuals could complete in such a short time. The impact will last for years and will be enjoyed by many. Thank you to both City Year for providing the time, muscle and talent of your corps members and to DDSO for successfully hosting the group!
