Nonprofit Partner Application

United Way Event

Apply below by 6/25/14 for your organization to be involved!

Day of Caring is September 12, 2014. We are setting our sights on recruiting hundreds of new and returning volunteers. Volunteers are ready to build community gardens, paint walls, read to kids, stuff envelopes, build walls, put together supplies, plant trees and more. This is your chance to show first hand the great work your organization does and garner some attention and support from potential donors and media. Your organization can benefit from the skilled and enthusiastic volunteers available on the Day of Caring!

Event Overview

Day of Caring is a day of service when individuals, families and teams of coworkers or friends can volunteer at nonprofit agencies throughout the region. Volunteer teams ranging in size from 10 -100 tackle meaningful projects addressing community and agency needs. United Way California Capital Region is initiating this event in order to promote volunteerism throughout Amador, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo Counties.

Scheduling a Day of Caring Project

The morning of the event will feature a Kick-Off breakfast and rally at Cal Expo before volunteers are sent on their way to complete your organization’s project. Projects should start at 9:30am (except in special circumstances) and last between 3-6 hours. While all projects will be considered, there is a particular interest in school/community gardens, park clean-ups and other large scale events. Water, snack and/or lunch must be provided to volunteers if applicable. While not required, projects that can accommodate large number of volunteers are particularly encouraged to apply.

Mini-grant Opportunity

United Way California Capital Region and our corporate partners will be able to provide a limited number of mini-grants to cover all or some of the costs of the Day of Caring volunteer project such as materials, snack, lunch, and water for volunteers. Typical grants range between $200-$800, depending on the project, with some exception. Community garden building projects will receive additional funding. The “Project Budget Worksheet”  (below) must be completed with all applications, regardless of whether you are applying for funding.
