While most people have heard of the Oscar award-winning movie,
“The King’s Speech,” few have heard of “The Queen’s
Speech.” Although not made into an award-winning
production, it is a true story about a young Texas girl’s desire
to manage her speech impediment known as stuttering.
What seemed to be years of tears and countless embarrassing
moments due to her inability to communicate effectively
without stumbling over her words, this young “Queen,”
through determination and hard work was able to effectively
manage this obstacle. She currently leads a wonderfully
exciting life filled with blessings and I know this for a
fact, for I am the “Queen!”

Part of having the best job on the planet and working with our
state employees are the VOLUNTEER opportunities! As the Director
of the California State Employees Charitable Campaign, I have had
the extreme pleasure of teaming up with some of our state
departments on numerous volunteer excursions. Last Wednesday, we
had the opportunity to partner with the California Highway Patrol
at their Annual Car Seat Safety Check. The event was held at
CalEXPO and despite rainy weather, we were able to ensure that
over 120 little Californians had their seats properly installed.
One thing I value and treasure is my role as a mother. When I
stop and think about the responsibility that I have as a parent
and the impact I have on the future, I am humbled that God would
bestow such a wonderful blessing upon me. When I ponder such
great responsibility, I often reflect on a quote from Jackie
Kennedy, “If you bungle raising your children, I don’t think
whatever else you do matters very much.”
Let me start out by saying that I am TRULY blessed! I believe
that I have the best job known to man because it allows me to
work with some of the most talented, caring, intelligent and
loving individuals gracing the face of this planet! One of these
individuals is the Department of Water Resources CSECC
(California State Employees’ Charitable Campaign) Chair, Ms.
Gerri LaRue-Higgs! Here is a lady that is ALWAYS giving 150% to
everything that she does; it is an extreme pleasure to know her
and watch her and her CSECC team conduct an amazing campaign!
I am truly EXCITED about this year’s 2009-2010 California State
Employees Charitable Campaign (CSECC)! I love my job and how it
affords me the opportunity to provide individuals with
information about various nonprofit organizations and the
valuable services they provide.
