Steve Heath
President & CEO
A native of Northern California and long-time leader in the regional community, Steve Heath became President & CEO of United Way California Capital Region in November of 2004.
Prior to joining United Way, Heath served as the Executive Director of the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area, the Federal Government’s Washington, DC, work place giving campaign that raised nearly $56 million in 2004.
Heath also was Chief Administrative Officer of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association in Chicago, Vice President for Communications of Sutter Health in Sacramento, Vice President for Strategic Business Development of Concord-based CareTouch and Director of Corporate Communications for Pacific Bell in San Francisco.
As a volunteer, Heath has served on and/or chaired a wide variety of boards and executive committees, including United Way California Capital Region (a total of 12 years), Sacramento Urban League, KVIE, Sacramento Theatre Company and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento. He twice served as Marketing Co-Chair on the Campaign Leadership Team for United Way in Chicago, one of the nation’s largest United Way campaigns, and on the Board of Directors of United Way of Illinois. In 1990, Heath was honored for his volunteer activities by Sacramento’s Camellia Festival Association.
Early in his career, Heath was a sports writer for The Sacramento Union and The Sacramento Bee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Sacramento. He is a member of Rotary Club of Sacramento, the United Ways of California Public Policy Committee, the United Way of America Major Markets CEO Group, the Metro Chamber Health Committee, the SACTO Communications Council and American Leadership Forum and serves on the Policy Board to End Chronic Homelessness, the board of Cover the Kids and on the Bank on Sacramento Design Team.
