Volunteers Making an Impact
May

Post

Big Day of Giving kicked off the month of May for United Way California Capital Region. We were so fortunate to have so many amazing donors contribute to the United Way fund.

United Way works hard to connect volunteers to community organizations where they can make a difference, and it was rewarding to feel the community’s support for our mission. We are incredibly proud of our volunteers and would like to showcase recent impact in action. Check out what they have been up to!

CoBank at Koinonia Home for Teens

To kick off the projects this month, CoBank came out in full force for a day’s hard labor with Koinonia Foster Homes and Family services.  Koinonia provides an incredible range of services throughout the region, with their residential group homes for teens being one of the most thorough and demanding. CoBank spent the day working around the barn and in the back field of House #1 with the help of a few of the residents. This property came into the possession of Koinonia about 8 years ago and was immediately put to work; for that reason, the building has never really had  the time to get the proper TLC that it needed to be of most use to the teens. About 20 CoBank employees and family members and 4 residents worked together to clear out 8 years-worth of weeds and some mysterious artifacts (we discovered a bath tub and a sink), as well as cleared a fire break around the barn and shed in preparation for the summer heat.

UPS Women’s Leadership Council at SFBFS

We were honored to have UPS’s Women’s Leadership Council and it’s supporters with us at Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services sorting and boxing donated food. 20 new volunteers and 4 returners came out to help sort the huge amount of donations that the food bank distributes daily.

UPS at SFBFS

UPS is at it again! Sac Food Bank and Family Services and United Way appreciate the dedication UPS has towards the food bank. They welcomed 12 volunteers to their donation sorting from all over the Sacramento Region. They dove right in like the old pros they are and tackled over six pallets worth of food to distribute the next day. We are so thankful to UPS for all of their donations of their time, their expertise, and their capital to make the Sacramento Region a better place.
