New for 2017: Spike Week!
Host an event the week of July 10

Post

The Sacramento Summer Meals Collaborative is excited to present an array of activities, reading lists, tips, and resources for summer meal sponsors and sites to utilize during Spike Week. The Spike Week toolkit provides daily themes, activity ideas, and resources to help you plan Spike Week events in order to keep the momentum going at summer meal program locations.

What are Spike Events? Spike Events re-engage the community, remind families of the importance and availability of summer meals, and increase summer meals participation to ensure that youth have access to healthy meals all summer long. Spike Week is held annually during the second week of July. Work with volunteers and students to distribute flyers to schools, churches, and community organizations to raise awareness about the summer meals program and your Spike Week events.

The Sacramento Summer Meals Collaborative recognizes that July is traditionally a month when participation in the summer meals program declines. To address this issue, the collaborative is organizing a community wide Spike Week with an overall goal to increase participation in the summer meals program by ten percent.

Use this toolkit as a guideline to organize your Spike Week and keep youth engaged and nourished all summer long!
