Filers can earn up to $6K through the state and federal Earned Income Tax Credits. California now offers its own Earned Income Tax Credit (Cal EITC). If they owe taxes, the EITC reduces the amount of taxes they might owe and may allow them a refund when they file their taxes. If they do not owe taxes, the EITC tax credit will provide them with a tax refund when they file their taxes.
