Become a 2017 VITA Volunteer
Provide free tax assistance in the community

Post

Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference at the same time. How can you make a difference? Simple. Help your community in preparing taxes free of charge by becoming a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) helps bring back millions of dollars to working families in our community by providing free tax assistance for low and moderate income households. Last year, the Coalition for Working Families helped keep more than $4 million in the pockets of residents by coordinating the VITA program. This success is only possible through a dedicated volunteer base.

The first trainings start in November.

Classroom or online training is required for all new volunteers. Classroom trainings require four days of training which are listed here.

Tax law updates, testing, and a Q&A will be available on December 3rd, 10th and January 14th only for volunteers who have completed training.

In 2015, the Coalition for Working Families trained and certified over 160 volunteers and surpassed all tax season expectations. Thank you to our generous volunteers!

This year, we want reach even more families that need VITA! Please tell your friends, neighbors, family members, and co-workers that we need them to volunteer, too!

If you are bilingual in Spanish, Russian, Hmong, Vietnamese, Cantonese or other languages spoken in Sacramento, your help is especially needed for potential filers who have limited English proficiency.
