United Way California Capital Region hosts a number of events throughout the year. From recognizing the donors that make a positive impact in our community, to volunteering, to going on a behind-the-scenes tour of one of our certified agencies, our events are created to empower and rally people in our community — your community. 2014 Event Calendar

California State Employees Charitable Campaign Kick-Off
August 27, 2014
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
West Steps, State Capitol
Event Description: More than 400 guests from the public and nonprofit sectors come together on the west steps of the State Capitol  to share valuable information, success stories and other beneficial ideas to prepare for the upcoming giving campaign. At the event, guests will be treated to an agency fair with more than 100 local nonprofit organizations ready, willing and able to talk about their goals as well as any volunteer opportunities they may have for CSECC donors.

Event Description: Day of Caring brings together business leaders, campaign coordinators, certified nonprofit partners and volunteer across the region to work on needed service projects. Working together and fostering team-building within our community exemplifies our LIVE UNITED spirit and builds excitement for the upcoming giving campaign

United Way’s Women in Philanthropy Annual Luncheon

Event Description: This event has and always will be, one the most unique opportunities in our region, offering the chance to network with other caring philanthropists and explore the benefits of becoming involved. Most importantly, this event thrives on creating lasting change in the lives of foster youth in our region.

Holiday Drive for Foster Youth
November-December 2014

Event Description:  Each year, United Way’s Women in Philanthropy program collects holiday gifts and stockings for foster youth. This year, Women in Philanthropy is teaming up with United Way’s Emerging Leaders program to provide holiday gifts and stockings for foster youth.

Emerging Leaders Career Development Series (3 of 3) – Board Service 360°

Event Description: Interested in serving on the board of your favorite nonprofit organization, but not quite sure where to start? Join United Way’s Emerging Leaders for a panel discussion about nonprofit board service for the young professional. We’ll explore every angle of service from how to prepare yourself for board involvement, what to expect as a board member, and what the organization expects from you.

Women in Philanthropy Members’ Celebration

6 – 7:30 p.m.
Event Description: Women in Philanthropy members are invited to celebrate the programs accomplishments while recognizing new and current members. New members will be awarded with their membership pin and all members will receive a special certificate. A short program will take place along with mingling over food and drinks.

United Way Nonprofit Leadership Summit
July 24, 2014
The Sheraton Grand Sacramento
9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Event Description: This half-day conference was created for our certified nonprofit partners to prepare for them for the upcoming giving campaign. The day includes various levels of Speakers Bureau training, cutting edge breakout sessions, vendor hall and a volunteer recognition reception.

United Way Toilet Paper Drive
June 12, 2014

Event Description: United Way California Capital Region and FOX40 News are rolling out the 6th Annual Toilet Paper Drive. The 6th annual LIVE UNITED Toilet Paper Drive will benefit many of United Way’s 140 certified nonprofit partners who spend thousands of dollars on toilet paper each year. You can help nonprofits spend more on changing lives and less on their toilet paper budget. Our goal is 230,000 rolls!

Women in Philanthropy Shopping Event

Event Description: Women in Philanthropy members will enjoy a night of shopping at networking with other members.  Refreshments will be provided and Lucy Activewear will provide a 15% discount to all shoppers at this private event.

Women in Philanthropy Spring Event

United Way’s offices
Event Description: Women in Philanthropy members collect towel sets, new toiletry items, and new or gently used luggage. The event supports Sacramento County’s Foster Youth Emancipation Basket program, which receives the towels and toiletries. Luggage is given to foster youth in United Way’s $en$e-Ability project.

Event Description: This annual favorite is an opportunity to thank our local community supporters and partners of United Way. Local companies, volunteers and agencies are honored for their outstanding commitment to our community.

Women in Philanthropy: A Day at the Capitol
March 26, 2014
1- 4 p.m.
State Capitol
(Sessions set to take place in the Governors Conference Room)
Event Description: We are inviting foster youth from each of our 4 funded partners to meet officials in state government. The goal is to expose our foster youth within our program to career opportunities and mentorship. Executive level women in state government will meet with the foster youth and share their experiences and there will also be a horseshoe tour of the capitol.

STAR Readers Book Drive
March 2 – 21, 2014
Event Description: Our third annual STAR Readers Book Drive is a virtual drive that supplies books to our STAR Reader funded partners and the children involved.
