Child Abuse Prevention Center needs volunteer to assist in database design
Feb. 26, 2010 -- The Child Abuse Prevention Center in North Highlands is looking for a skilled volunteer to assist on the design and development of one or more Microsoft Access 2007-based databases. These databases are intended to reduce duplication of work effort, streamline data entry, and facilitate greater manipulation of data to provide useful quality information. These improvements will help staff better manage the implementation of programs that benefit children and families that reduce or eliminate child abuse and neglect.
The volunteer will work with various staff at the Center, including directors, program managers, project managers, and compliance personnel. Volunteer hours can be flexible, and once a schedule has been established the volunteer will work primarily with the Program Compliance Facilitator. Additional staff will be invited to participate as needed. Due to the confidential nature of much of the data, some database work will need to be conducted at our physical location and require a signed confidentiality agreement. Some general design work and projects of a less confidential nature may be conducted off site, subject to the approval of the Center’s executive management team.
The volunteer should be well-versed in the following areas of Access:
• Overall database design and management;
• Table design, including relationships; and
• Creating useful forms, queries (including select, append, delete, and update), complex expressions, macros, and meaningful reports.
An ideal volunteer would be ready to start on March 1, 2010. If this opportunity appeals to you, please email Mewa Choy, Human Resources/Operations Manager at mchoy@thecapcenter.org or call 916-244-1904 at your earliest convenience so that we may discuss your qualifications and schedule an in-person interview. A background check consisting of results from the California Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the National Sex Offender Public Registry is required before access to confidential information can be granted.
