When you volunteer with United Way, you are making a direct impact to help kids succeed in school. Volunteers help support the Square One Project, United Way’s 20-year promise to significantly increase the number of local kids who graduate from high school ready for success in college and beyond.

Great things happen when you come together! That’s what happened at Bell Avenue Elementary thanks to employees from Principal, the Sacramento River Cats and Green Acres Nursery. A few months ago, the River Cats teamed up with Green Acres for a garden build contest. Although Bell Avenue Elementary didn’t win, they came in second place and they decided our friends in the Robla School District were still well deserving of a nice, new garden!

Over the last few weekends, volunteers have been putting in some serious love to the gardens at Bell, including Principal’s help building garden beds on Day of Caring.

After the garden prep was completed, we joined the kind folks from Green Acres and the River Cats to plant the garden beds that were built on Day of Caring. The end result is something the students will enjoy day in and day out.

Here’s a look at the volunteers in action:

A big thank you to Principal, the Sacramento River Cats and Green Acres Nursery!
