Volunteer: Ready for Robla
Join us for a Square One Project volunteer opportunity

There are over 650 documented children in Robla School District who qualify as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, a federal program that ensures the educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness. For these students and their families, the start of a new school year is often a cause for stress and anxiety due to the inability to secure basic school supplies needed to successfully start the year.

“Ready for Robla” is Robla School District’s inaugural back-to-school readiness event aimed specifically at helping these families. “Ready for Robla” will be a one-stop shop for the families to receive kids’ clothing, backpacks filled with school supplies, and produce donations.

The event, which is expecting attendance of anywhere from 600-1,000 people, will be set up like a marketplace, where families can stop at each station and collect what they need. There will also be a kid’s zone with physical activities and games for the kids, as well as several vendors to provide high-needs assistance and resources for the families, such as a mobile clinic offering free immunizations.

We are looking for volunteers to help make this event easy and fun for the families. Volunteers will be assigned to one (or more) of the many stations as well as help with setup and take-down. The stations include:

  • Welcome/Check-in
  • Backpack giveaway (up to 950 backpacks)
  • Produce distribution
  • Clothing distribution
  • Kids’ activity zone
  • General help/family assistance
Event details:
  • Date/time: Saturday, August 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Location: Taylor Street Elementary School
    4350 Taylor St.
    Sacramento, CA 95838
  • We need between 50-100 volunteers
