United Way California Capital Region certified nonprofit partner Volunteer’s of America will be holding their 7th annual Operation Backpack community drive from July 8 to July 22. Operation Backpack collects new backpacks and school supplies for Sacramento-area youth that are affected by homelessness or from low-income households. Last year, Volunteer’s of America distributed 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, and this year hopes to exceed last year’s numbers.
Volunteer’s of America encourages individuals to bring a new backpack filled with school supplies to any of the more than 150 drop-off locations, including all Tri Counties bank branches and more than 100 Starbucks stores. To view a complete list of drop-off locations, please visit www.operationbackpacksac.org. You may also donate a new backpack filled with school supplies on July 22 to Tri Counties Bank Arden Fair parking lot, 1760 Challenge Way, Sacramento (4:30 a.m. – 7p.m.), or at the Stanislaus County Office of Education at 1100 H Street, Modesto (6a.m. – 6p.m.).
