LIVING UNITED

Amber Lovett

Working in the marketing department here at United Way, you get to hear about a lot of great volunteer opportunities with our certified nonprofit partners. Janice Wagaman and Devon Good from Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) had told us about a room they desperately needed painted at their agency. When someone from United Way went and checked out the room, they realized some repairs were needed before the painting started so they worked with some volunteers to get that completed. However, the painting still needed to be done! Working with a friend of mine who used to work at United Way, we decided to get a group of our friends together to get the painting project completed. I have a lot of friends that are always interested in volunteering and often times people just need to be asked! We assembled a group of seven and met up on a Saturday morning with coffee, snacks and painting supplies in tow. We had a great time painting and visiting! We finished the room in about four hours and were amazed at the difference a coat of paint makes. It was also such a great feeling to start and finish a project and have so much fun in the process! Check out the before and after pictures. Here at United Way, we’re always encouraging people to LIVE UNITED and get involved whether it’s lending an hour or a day and that’s exactly what we did. I encourage you to get out there and do the same. So many of our nonprofits have great volunteer opportunities.

The mission of Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) is to provide assistance to families with childreband individuals toward self reliance.
