United Way is working hard to ensure that every student in our region will read at grade level by fourth grade and graduate from high school.

Kids who don’t read at grade level by the end of third grade are 70% more likely to drop out of high school. The reason?Up until third grade, kids are learning to read.From fourth grade on, they’re reading to learn.To learn more about United Way’s work in education, click here.

In support of United Way’s work of improving early reading skills in kids, Emerging Leaders is partnering with Reading Partners, a United Way certified nonprofit partner.

Volunteer with Emerging Leaders on February 7th at D.W. Babcock Elementary School, a Reading Partners school site. Volunteers will work one on one with children in Reading Partners’ program. No experience is necessary, you will be trained to work with a structured curriculum and have on-site staff support.

About United Way’s Emerging Leaders Program: United Way’s Emerging Leaders are young professionals under 40 who join together across varying backgrounds and industries to create lasting change in our community through philanthropy, networking and leadership. Members participate in hands-on volunteer activities with nonprofit partners, attend social and networking events and leadership and professional development trainings.
